if the latch cycles like is should and the cable moves freely what your feeling is likely just the normal. you also need to take into consideration that the spring on the hood puts extra pressure on the latch so it will take more pulling force to release. kind of like if you have have ever parked on a hill and it took a bit more effort to get your truck out of park.
