Default 46rh transmission tail cone not fitting on NEED HELP

my brother, my dad and I recently purchased a 360 with a 46rh transmission and a 4x4 tail cone. we tried just swapping out the 4x4 tail cone for the 2wd one but its not going on all the way. the tail cone is about an inch from the actual transmission and i cant figure out what its binding on. the park engaging lever (whatever its called) is not hitting anything and i dont really know what else to look for. with my brother going off to college in a week we really need to get it into the truck in working condition again

the truck is a 1991 ram d150 with the 318 la and 46rh and we're trying to put in a 360 la engine from a 1992 w150 with the 46rh

tia!!!

why not just use the 46RH that was already in the truck? i am pretty sure you have to tear the whole transmission apart to convert a 4x4 transmission to a 2wd. i believe the output shaft is different.

I think just changing the overdrive section (assuming you have one from a 4x4) works??

i cant remember exactly what my dad told me but it was something like "the 360 needs to keep the torque converter thats already on it" or something like that

the shafts look to be the same... we wanted to seal up the donor transmission so we put the put the 4x4 cone on it and it slid on just fine (i took it off again and now were having the same issue with the donner tranny)

Are you trying to install it with or without the park rod?
