I recently got a 1986 w100 with a 318. When I got it I noticed a leak in the power steering pressure hose and figured it wasnt a big deal to change the hose. I was wrong. After doing research it seems a previous owner must have replaced the old power steering pump at some point so the hoses intended for the pump that I currently have are not the ones that were originally used for my year and model. If anyone has any advice or a link for where i could find the correct hose I would really appreciate the help. I ordered one that looked identical to the original except the side of the hose that connects to the pump has a slightly different angle and no matter how i manipulate the hose the flare fitting wont thread into the back of the pump. Ive attached photos of the old hose that I removed as well as the new hose that i purchased. Again, they look identical but at the very end of the pump side of the hose my new one goes on a 45 towards the hose whereas the original flare points parallel along the hose.
It looks similar but after the bend near the pump it looks to long. Can you bend it to fit? Did you happen to look on rockauto and compare different brands/configurations? Maybe get the oem part# and use that.

i was trying to avoid bending it only because i dont have a vise and i dont want to kink it. But whats strange is that when i try to hand tighten the flare it feels good like its catching a thread and then once i put a wrench to it immediately it pops out. Thats why im almost thinking I have to tale both hoses somewhere and see if the flates are even the same size. They look the same to me but no matter what I do that flare will not go into that pump
Make sure the end of the hose is correct. I just replaced the hose on my 74 Challenger and it did not have the same type of flare on each end. Just a thought.
