Default 88 Ramcharger electrical dies when starting

Hey guys, I am in a quandary. I have a 1988 Ramcharger with a 318. When I turn the key to the on setting, everything works as expected. When I turn it to start, the truck loses all power and the power does not come back when I release the key. I have to pull the battery cable off the positive side for about 5 seconds and then it will have power again. I have tried replacing the auto shutdown relay but it did not help. I know that this pay be related to the fusable links in the positive cable, but I cannot find a positive cable out there with the same plug in OE design.

Should I continue to chase the battery cable with links or is there something else I should be looking at? Maybe the starter relay? Electrical work is not my strength.

almost sounds like a bad connection at the battery. are the clamps clean and tight? it would definitely explain why everything works till you put a heavy load on the connection. try leaving the key in the run position and wiggling terminals till you hear stuff come back to life when it does it again.
