Rear main seal

Changing rear main oil seal on my 84 Ram pickup, do you silicone the rubber seal or does it go in dry? And do I lift the engine? I'm not a mechanic

Oil pan gasket gets a bit at the corner where it wraps around at the back. Maybe a VERY LITTLE bit between the two halves of the rear main.
