Default Please read need help. Question

Ok I have a 91 Dodgetruck With a 318 automatic. The truck has been acting up on me and its weird. Tonight I had it running in the driveway checking fluids and stuff and it just shuts off. Its done this 3 times now and sometimes it will take a couple of hours to start. I couldn't get it to start at all tonight. Anyway I checked to see if it was getting fire from the coil. (pulled the coil out of the Distributor and liad it agianst metal to get spark and nothing. Im thinking the coil but someone who said they work on these dodges said there was something in the steering column called a tumbler that would cause this. Has anyone heard of this problem in the column or is this guy blowing smoke up my booty. thanks
