Default Glasspacks illegal in TX?

I went to get my truck inspected today and once the inspector looked under my truck he said it can't pass with a glasspack muffler. This surprised the hell out of me. I still have the stock catalytic convertor, so its not an emissions deal. Another thing is that 2 chevy drivers I know have had exhaust shops put glasspacks oin thier trucks and they both pass safety inspection.

I don't know anything about TX law, but it probably is illegal...since it makes the truck louder than factory, which is illegal around here despite the fact that we don't have inspection.

Now how strongly they enforce it is a different story. You may have just gotten an inspector that enforces it...or maybe he was just having a bad day. [>:]

As long as you have a cat. on your truck, it should no matter what kind of muffler you have on your truck. I took my truck in and I have no cats. on my truck, they said as long as I have a cat. on my truck I'll pass. Go somewhere diff. or as them why. I live in Copperas Cove, Texas right next to Fort Hood. I grew up in Suger Land. Right down the street from the Suger Plant, is the Suger Plant still there? Just call and ask them why? I'll ask some people in The Woodlands and Spring where I'm from. Good luck!

SugarLand has emissions testing now. The Imperial Sugar Building is still here, though it is no longer operated. I went to another inpection place and they told me that glasspacks were for "race use only". The guy at that place told me the same thing, that I had to inspect the truck in the same county I registred it in. I think thats BS< since I have never had that problem before. I have a cat, and chambered muffler(dynomax) on it now, but I am just waiting till I head to Tyler this weekend to get it inspected.

...Or it's just waking up kids. I ran my Ram without pipes for about a month. I had to put them back on when I came home once at 0300 hrs. and woke up my neighbor's 10 y/o kid.
