Default 8 3/4" Rearend??

Have a 9.25" in my truck, but can't find a spool or mini spool for it. My LSD is getting to be useless when I do a low RPM burnout, and can cause the truck to be inconsistent/faster if power is only going to one wheel sometimes from what an expirienced racer told me.

What 8.75 rear should I try to find?? I'm guessing B or E-body. If anyone on here has done this please inform me.

Anyone know the flange to flange length on a '85 9.25? I'd like to find something to practically bolt right in, probably not possible but I want it to be the same length as the current 9.25" in it.

Hoping that everything holds up until the end of racing season, then I'm going to town on this money pit (only because it's not going to be worth even close to what I put into it). I just want to get it planned out now so I know exactly what is going to need to be done over the short winter period.

Probably won't find too much info about 8 3/4" axles here...mostly truck owners here that would have Dana 44s/Chrysler 9.25s and larger.

Here's quite a bit of info on them though: http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/...erRearEnd.html

LMAO!!!

I just bookmarked that same exact web page 15 minutes ago. Thanks for the suggestion. I use to online race with a fellow that had 2 dodge trucks that he drag raced with 8.75's. I should try to find him and ask him about it.

Was just looking on racingjunk.com and ebay for 8.75 rearends and really only seen a couple even worth mentioning. I think I need one with around a 56" flange to flange. I should measure the one in my dad's challenger and compare to the 9.25 in the truck for an idea.

Anyone know of any flat fiberglass hoods for these trucks?? Want a flat one, not cowl/ram air/ect. Could probably save 100 pounds of weight (not sure, just throwing a number out) and maybe put the pro stock style scoop on it.

You can try posting in the classifieds area over at www.ramchargercentral.com

The 8.75 didn't come under any Ramchargers, but those guys over there always seem to have the oddest parts laying around.

I'm pretty sure my friend's 73 w100 had a 8.75 under it when he bought it. Might be another avenue to explore.

Also, if you drive the truck on the street, just rebuild the LSD unit. I'll be much safer.

It's strictly a race truck. I'm on a roll with it right now, have won the last 2 weeks in it, 12 round winning streak so far. About time to take the 100 pounds of lead out and put some race seats in it sometime in the near future, should drop it into the 13.30's in bad air. It's popping and cracking over 5500 rpm's, but it's still running consistent for me.

My 1/8 mile et's my last 4 rounds were:

8.574
8.574
8.559
8.558

Last year it usually wasn't even close, I just thought of what might be helping...the red top optima battery might be keeping a more consistent and healthier voltage than the cheapo I had in it before.

ah

I'd give Randy's Ring & Pinion a call to see if they've got anything, or can get anything for the 9.25 - won't cost anything to call and might save some money if they've got something that just isn't listed for whatever reason.

Seems odd though that all those trucks out there with the 9.25 and nobody has a spool for it. Seems really odd.

There's always welding it up though.

Yeah I thought about calling Randy's before as well, I think I'll just skip getting the spool and gear for this year. No reason to put money into a 9 1/4 rearend. I agree with you it seems someone would make one, but haven't seen one yet.

Anyone know what I need to do to put the leaf springs underneath the axle? Do I need to just buy the new spring perches and have them welded onto the rearend and bolt it back up and it's complete?

Hey SF D-100 ,

I have a 77 D-150 with a 8 3/4". I found the axle in a early 70's 1/2 ton truck. I think it was a 72 or 73. You can still find these in the bone yards and they have the bigger pinions. If your looking for a car unit because of the flipped axle, try looking in a C body. If I were you I would look for the truck unit and reweld some new perches on it. Just my 2 cents.
