loud
Hey everyone. I was just wondering what kind of exhaust everyone has? Or, more specifically, what modifications everyone has made to their exhausts? I would like one that has a good rumble to it, but with so many choices, its hard to pick whats good and whats not. Any and all imput would be appreciated.
I have been wondering the same. Mine has some ghetto fabulous Y-pipe welded to a coorogated peipe from the parts store, a El-Cheapo-Mundo muffler, and a downpipe.
It sounds like it could be stock, but it dumps the exhuast onto the iner sidewall of the rear passanger side tire. >.<
Been thinking about a stock appearing flowmaster 40 series setup.
How would that sound with my 318?

40 series is pretty loud, especially if you don't have a cat. With a cat it's probably perfect for a balsy yet not totally obnoxious sound. I've got a 30 series on my Ram, hooker ceramic coated headers (1 5/8" into 2.5" collectors) and 2.5" Y into a single 3" out the stock right rear location. It's a good setup, my friend is running the same on his 318.
I have an 82 ram 4x4 with a built 360. I put headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust with 2 flowmaster 40 ansd 4" tips straight out the back. that thing was stupid loud. I loved it, I dont think the neighbours did

On my 1991 Dodge Ram with a 318ci I have Summit Racing Long Tube Headers with 2 1/4 piping to and Dynomax H-pipe Muffler dumped behind the rear wheels. Sounds mean when you give it gas. I love the way it sounds.
I have a 96 V10, with two hollow cats, a 2 1/4", 2in, 2out 40S blowmaster, and pipes out the back. I hate it, it sounds like I am running my exhaust through a trashcan. Not a flowmaster lover here.
My 95 318 ram, has no cat, "X" pipe, and two 2 1/4" walker turbo mufflers. Sounds pretty good, really, quiet, but rumbles a bit when you step on it. Nice and mellow.
My 74 D300, 318 truck, has Headers, 2 1/2" pipes with an "X", Hooker aerochambers, that run out on the passengers side, in front of the tire. It sounds great, nice and mellow, untill you put your foot on the pedal. Also has a bit of a choppy idle, which sounds flat mean for a truck too.
I just built a system with some magnaflows, on a 340 cammed 360, and manifolds. "X" pipe, 2 1/4" to two magnaflows. The magnaflows are the best sounding muffler I have ever heard. I will use them from now on, I think.
If you want the power sound, you need the power to make the sound, pretty much.

I don't like flowmaster. I had a 2002 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 in it. I put a 40 series Flowmaster on it Headers and no cats. It sounded like a damn ricer coming down the street. I cut it off and it sound better then the damn flowmaster. I would never go with flowmaster again. The Dynomax H-pipe muffler I have sounds perfect on my 1991 Dodge Ram with that 318.

Well on my 81 Ram Stepside with a stock 318 2BBL, I have true duel 2 1/2 pipes with 24" Glasspacks and 24"x5" Chrome Angle Cut Tips (Echo Tips). It's loud but I use to have it alot louder I had 12" Glasspacks and man that was very loud, I put 24" GP's so I could hear my new audio system.
I had it dumped out the back of my truck behind the rear tires and it sound pretty good before with the Dynomax H-pipe muffler. I took it to the muffler shop today and got the it dumped in front of the rear end. It's now a whole lot louder and sounds better.
