1992 RAM W150 Problems
Hi, I just purchased a 92 Ram w150 4x4 truck from a friend of mine. Currently it is not running. It ran about 2 months ago but would die after about 5 minutes of running. My friend only drove it 4k miles in 4 years of owning it (176000 total miles) it mostly sat. The engine turns over but will not start. Battery is dead, trying to start from booster. Replaced spark plugs, plug wire and distributor rotor, no help. Fuel pump runs for a second when ignition is first started and has half tank of gas. Someone told me that there is some relay or sensor on the firewall that frequently goes bad on dodges and may be the problem. Anyone who can help with that?? Could it be the pickup coil or ignition coil?? As stated before, it turns over fine but will not catch and start, possibly needs a new battery of its own (not a booster). Any help would be appreciated.
P.S - It is a 318 5.2 L fuel injected model. Would it be worth pulling the motor and rebuilding it to add some life to it? I'm kind of bored and have never rebuilt a motor, would it be worth my time and trouble or is it not necessary if it passes a compression test?

Spark.
Fuel.
Oxygen.
You need all three. 99% chance there isnt a problem with your intake so scratch that off the list. Pull each plug from the engine one at a time. With it connected to the plug wire, try starting thew engine. If all 8 plug fire when tested independantly then your spark is fine too, scratch that off your list. Now pull your fuel line form the fuel rail and put the end into a coke bottle. Crank the engine again. Fuel comes out the your engine is getting fuel.
Those three test typically willd etermine what needs replaced. If they all check out then its a mixutre of them all not being applied correctly. Maybe its running to lean (sensor is bad somewhere). Maybe your timing is wrong (I'd hope you'd notice this before though), etc...
Hope this helps.
Edit: If anything is misspelled, or just doesnt make sense I appologize. I am on muscle relaxers right now for a back injury... >.<

Mine too is down...check on your side wall and see if you have a white ceramic resistor (aobut 1" by 2")
Remoace this..was told they tend to crack and are sensitive to water. Mine i have to rewire.
Luck!!

wow , put a pic up lol. I plan on repaing some dents and replacing some pieces such as bumpers, grille , fenders. The paint is fragged gonna need to paint it as well, thinking black so it will hide mistakes if I screw up painting (sanding helps too) Of course that is all after I get it running
