Default Fan Removal

I am trying to take the fan off my ram to get at the water pump. Does anyone know what size the nut holding the fan clutch/fan is? It looks to be maybe an inch or a little higher but I dont want to go and buy the wrong wrench.

wrench should be a 1/2 inch. Thats what I used to take my fan off and put the elec. fan on.

yes the bolts holding the fan on the clutch are 1/2 in BUT , i need to get the whole assembly off the water pump and there is a large nut inbetween the fan/pump. Do I need to loosen that?

Are you tring to change the Fan or the Water Pump? Because on my truck, as soon as I took all four of the bolts off the fan clutch, the fan came off and the water pump pulley came off to. Then I could get to the water pump.

I want to get the fan apart to sand it and paint it, and then replace the water pump. I am overhauling the entire engine and am dressing up at the same time while I have the thing apart. I need to get some more tools but it seems like the big nut inbetween the fan/clutch and the pump is what needs to be held steady so you can get enough support to break the bolts free without the thing spinning on you

Did you ever think of a flex fan, there about $30 or elec. fan. less drag on your water pump and add power back to the engine.

I think maybe it turns counterclockwise in relation to the fan pulley?
