Default 1985 1 ton, what to do?

Hey guys, this is my first post, and my dad just bought a 1985 dodge ram 1 ton. The thing is getting horrible gas milage, maybe around 5-6 mpg and my dad is a very conservative driver. He wanted me to find out if there is some sort of eletronicly controlled carb. along with other stuff to get the mpg's up. Maybe new plugs, wires and cap? please just list some things that we can buy to get it up. the truck is a work truck and we just want some better mpg. thanks guys
Ryan

Keep in mind yours is a 1 ton and perhaps geared as such too.
You could try a Holley Carb to replace the one that is on it expecially if it is a Carter.
I put a 2 bbl Holly with manual choak on my 84 ram 1/2T -318. I get on a average 12 MPG.
Gave me about a 3 MPG gain..
