Can the trunk release button be disabled?

Why do you want it disabled? Just wondering thats all I mean I like the idea that you have to hit the button twice in order for the trunk to open to avoid it opening by pressing the button by mistake. Just be careful if you do open the keyless remote I here they are $$$$$ to replace and or fix.

 

I was refering to the button on the dash. I keep expensive gear in my trunk. I dont want someone to be able to open the trunk if i leave my doors unlocked or they break the window.Most cars either have a switch in the trunk or a key lock to disable opening of the trunk.

Why would you want to disable the trunk release? Kind of defeats the purpose...They can still access the trunk through the split rear seats! Maybe a little more time consuming, but if a thief wants what is in the trunk, they will get it.

Agreed, there is a small connector on the back of the switch. Just disconnect it and hide the connector in the back of the IP. Maybe tape it up so nothing can get in there and bridge the circuit, which might accidentally open the trunk.

 

Ican understand your concernwhen you say you want to disable it as it is still active when you take the key out of the ignition..

But.. You actually dont have to worry about disabling the trunk switch as the power to the trunk release is cut after a while. You can take the keys out, get out of your car, leave your window down and try popping the trunk to test this out and confirm it.

I figured I would post this to save you some stress about the trunk button but as stated before there are plenty of ways people can get into your trunk if they want in.. Dent pull the trunk lock, run a wire to the positive terminal of your now disconnected trunk wire to the fuse box, and the ever popular just open the folding back seat. (Which may have a lock on the back of the seat as my old 97 Avenger had to prevent opening it from the inside of the car)

But aside of that .. you shouldnt have to worry too much about the trunk release button if you dont disconnect it.

By the way.. I'm still waiting to receieve my Avenger from the dealer and I am basing this info on what I have seen at the dealership and my currently rented Chrysler 300 which amazingly uses a lot of the same parts as the Avenger and other Dodge cars. But I thought a constantly live trunk switch was the case in this car too until I got out of it and waited a little while. (Im used to everything shutting down when I the the key out with my old 97 Avenger so it took me a while to get used to the concept)

I dont have my newAvenger here to confirm but im pretty sure it worksthe same as the 300.
