Default Transmission issues

Had an Avenger SE for about 2000 miles. The transmission kept going into "Limp' mode. Two dealers worked on the car 5 times for the same issue. Finally got fed up and demanded selling dealer to buy the car back.

While still fairly cold, vehicle would just simply pop out of Drive and into nuetral, no warning, just an immediate shift to nuetral, and shifting lever no longer engages any gear. Pull over, shut the car off and restart. Now the engine malfunction light is on and vehicle is in "Limp" mode - 2nd gear only. Tried several re starts - nothing.

Take car back to dealer, they work thier magic and usually 2-3 days later out of the clear blue, same thing. Car went back to dealer 5 times in 2 weeks for this.

Demanded buy back on the 5th visit.

Dealer agreed, and gave me another Avenger, a Red SXT - its been 700 miles, only problem is radio not coming on a few times. Might need a SW update, dont know yet - any thoughts on that?

Anyone else with similar trasnission issues?

I'm really sorry to hear about that. It's a shame. My SE had the update software done for the radio and transmission. It sounded or felt like it was hesitating going into to gear. So far it's good. You're problem with the first car is a shame. What color was the first car. I have the silver steel. I know either on this forum or another there were people have trouble with radios turning on in the winter. Good luck with everything.

By any chance do you know what the codes were? And did you have the 41TES or the 62TE?

Yeah, I have all the paperwork -
the codes were
PCM-P0700-Stored - Trans Control Sys MIL Request
TCM-P0755-Stored - 2-4 or 2C Solenoid Circuit

The paperwork says the trans is VLP 41TE Trans

The parts replaced were
1st repair - nothing, cleared codes Flash Program PCM
2nd repair - Part No. 5140429-AA Solenoid 8059043
3rd Repair - 5140429AA (same as above)
4th repair - 08890102 Power distribution center PDC/ totally integrated power module TIPM - Replaced module - 68028008AB

Does all this make sense?

I could scan alltheworkorders then .pdf and post them here if it would help.

Yes pretty good so far,But you know I don't like to say anything. That's when stuff happens! Mine was built in March. I was just wondering if there's a pattern when they were made and the color. Sounds nuts I know. Seems somewhere there were people who had Inferno red Avengers with overspray and they were made the same month. Maybe these workers were mad at the company and didn't give a crap. My paint job had some missing metallic and couple other things. Seems to me I talked to someone with same color and they had this too.

I had the same code on a 300m. It took me some time to find the problem. The fix was the wire harness, The connector had been shorting out. Causing the trans to go into limp in and then shift just fine. If you want to be a nice person, you can share this information with dealer if you want too.

I called the dealer and told the tech about this, he didnt say as much, but he led me to beleive they have gotten rid of that car they bought back from me - and he said he never did get instructed to work on it, so as far as that vehicle is concerned, I'm not sure what to say. But he did say he appreciated the info and if he saw another issue like this he would look at wire harnesses. But, I notice you say "Causing the trans to go into limp in and then shift just fine". Mine never came back out of Limp mode, do you think that matters?

Sure it does. That tells me the problem is a hard fault problem and should have easy to find with the right tools. Or maybe the dealer just didn't want to work on it. When I said the trans would go in and out of limp in was because the wire the circuit was shorting out, when the car body flex the wire would short and the the car flex a diff way the trans would come out of limp in on the next start up.
