Default Coolant Disappears After 2 Weeks

My Daughter's 2008 Avenger looses coolant within about 2 weeks. This has been going on for about 6 months. I have replaced the radiator cap, because it was defective. I have to add coolant every 2 weeks. Engine starts to run hot during same time period. I have stood over the vehicle when it does this and can't see where the leak might be. I can see, at times but not always, a pool of coolant/water on top of the transmission housing. There is no coolant in the oil. I have not been able to pinpoint a leak. Could the thermostat be going bad? Is there a hose that may have a small hole, tear or cut in it? How difficult is it to change the thermostat? Thanks for any help.

Tim

Sounds like you need to have the system pressure tested to find the leak. Hopefully it is not a head gasket.

Oh and welcome to the forum!!

Thanks. Happy to be here. I am calling the Dealer to have it towed in.
Can't get it out of Park now. Just put in another gallon of antifreeze.
I have the extended warranty on it, so it shouldn't cost much to fix.
Will let you know what I find out.

Well, had the dealer pressure test the system. Found the thermostat housing was cracked. Dealer wants $550.00 to fix it. Part only costs $70.00. Had to have the shifter replaced. It was broken and would not come out of Park. This one doesn't have the manual override. Paid $223.00 to get up and moving again. None was covered by extended warranty. I will replace the housing myself.

Hey why are they charging you did you not say you had extended warranty and that would be covered under the 3 years 60000KM's would it not as well as the shifter.
I took our Avenger in for the seat, the mesh on the drivers seat is fraying at just under 30k km''s they are replacing that but could not replicate a creaking and thumping under the hood..gonna go back Thursday try again. That should be warranty if it is cracked especially.

Their answer was, that the shifter was part of the electronic sensor and was not part of the warranty. The housing was plastic and not part of the engine component. Found the housing for $18.00. Total cost to me for the repair was less than $32.
My daughter was complaining about a thumping noise also. When I looked at the engine compartment, notice the air filter housing was not secured. Took it off and found that one of the bracket holes had broken off. Took some auto glue and reattached the piece. Does not rattle or thump when driving, now.
