'08 Avenger starting problem
Car has factory remote start installed. It won't start using the key in the ignition switch. Have to use remote start to get it to run. It completely shut down on me Monday and wouldn't even start using remote. Service dept says the wireless receiver in the car is defective and doesn't "see" the key chip. New receiver is on backorder and not available for about three weeks. WTF here? Is this a common problem with factory remote start options? Any why is a new receiver not readily available?
Yes it is a common problem. And they have been on backorder for some time. If you do read this message. Next time if you don't get any response, Jump over to another section and ask for help. I'm in the van section and you can also ask for help in the 1st gen avenger section too.
Well, the back-ordered wireless receiver finally showed up at the service department, damaged in shipping!!! Had to order another one. and wait some more. When it arrived and was installed another problem was found and yet another electrical part was needed. More waiting....
The additional part arrived and was installed. Yet, the problem of the car not starting still existed. The tech finally found where the original dealership had installed an "analog" anti-theft device in the ingnition wiring harness. When "activated" the device interupted the circuit that cranks the starter. I was not aware the device was installed in the car. That device was found to be defective as well and was removed. With the ignition wiring now properly hooked as it should be, cured this maddening problem.
So far, this '08 Avenger is now starting like it should and the factory remote start works when commanded. I am still holding my breath when I get in and try to start.
So, beware of dealer installed anti-theft devices.
