Default 2014 Avenger Aftermarket Radio keeps killing battery

Switched my son's car radio out to a new Kenwood A/V unit. I used the Metra kit that has the digital converter, for the power connection, with it. All wiring is done correctly - I have double-tripple checked it and had someone else look at it as well. Every time I install the new head unit, within two days the battery is dead.
I have even tried bypassing the digital converter by wiring the power wire directly to the cigarette lighter - still kills the battery.

I put the factory radio back in and all is well...no battery drain. WHAT THE HECK????

Anyone else experience this specific issue and know how to fix it?

This may sound simple, but re-install and disconnect one wire at a time till you find out which one is killing the battery.
