2014 Avenger SE 2.4 - Clicks a few times, no start
Hello,
Looking for some direction. My car is a 2014 Avenger SE 2.4. It was running fine, then wouldn't start. All lights come on as usual, AC works, radio, ect. It will click a few times then nothing, the check engine light stays on and the red security dot flashes if left on the "ON" position. All fuses under the hood seem to be fine, battery tests ok and has been fully charged (all instrument cluster lights are bright and full). I just changed the starter and it is still doing the same thing. I changed all 4 relays too thinking if that was the problem it would be sure to correct anything in that area. I'm really at a place where I'm not sure where to turn next. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

It does not turn over at all. All dash lights come on as usual, AC and radio will turn on.... when you go to start it makes a few (maybe 5 or 6 buzzy sounding clicks) then only the check engine light stays on and the red security system dot flashes, it does not crank at all.
It was doing this so I thought it was the starter so I just replaced it yesterday and it's doing the same thing so that was why I jumped on here looking for direction. The starter is a remanufactured Carquest from Advance Auto

I mean it sounds like a starter issue, or not getting enough power to turn over. I would check the connections from the starter to the battery make sure nothings been chewing on it, wires rubbing etc.
Go have the alternator tested maybe, tho I feel like it would have turned over some after charging the battery. Are you sure you wired the new starter up correctly, no wires got moved around? I believe you can bench test the starter as well, make sure the remanufactured unit isn't faulty.

It was having an issue last fall and I pulled the alternator at that time and it was fine (tested at 2 different auto stores to be sure, it ended up just being a loose positive battery cable).
It's been running fine since.... I was wondering if maybe the battery was not strong enough although, it has been starting it fine with the battery that is in it and it tested fine at the store ...and this was the day before I replaced the starter (it just needed charged which I have done). It was a used battery put in by my kid about a year ago and I'm not sure what CCA it has (can't read what's on the battery) but it's fully charged and that hasn't been an issue. I was thinking of working my way back down to the starter making sure all of the connections are very clean, then pull the new starter and check it to make sure it isn't bad... I didn't check it prior to installation... looking back probably should have had them test it at the store before I left with it
I did clean the terminals on the battery before I put it back in and cleaned the battery cable connections before I put it back in a couple days ago
update- put a new battery in and did exactly the same thing ….so…I pulled the starter and took to to the store and it checked out as ok 3 times.. going to put it back in and see if I can’t trace this down.. anyone have any idea what I might be missing.. I’ve cleaned all the metal to metal connections.. all the wires seem to be ok

I don't have a code reader so I can't say.

Ok, I'll try to hunt down a code reader. I'm not familiar with that process, trying to avoid a repair shop if at all possible.
Would any of the fuses in the drivers compartment have anything to do with it? I haven't checked those yet because it was my understanding they wouldn't play any part in this issue

Please don't take this as an insult, but if you do not know how to use a volt ometer and do a voltage check, you need to just bring it to a repair shop before you cause more problems possibly shorting out and causing more SERIOUS problems
