Default Faulty USB input on RER 730N Radio (SOLVED)

Just thought I would see if anyone else had the same problem: I went to load music on my radio and plugged in my usb stick and to my surprise, the radio said that there was nothing on the drive, despite there being plenty of music available. I tried another usb stick with no luck. Called the dealer and they ordered a brand new radio after a quick check of the problem. Seems like the USB input is no longer working. I know it gets power as my usb stick has a light built in to show if it is getting power, but nothing is read on it. No complaints since I will have a new radio, but odd for such a problem on such a new unit.

Anyone else see this?

ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED: Your USB drive MUST be formatted in FAT32 or FAT16 for the radio to read music files from it. It will NOT read a drive formatted to NTFS. If you are unsure, plug in your USB drive into your computer, and go to My Computer and highlight the USB drive. It will show what type of File System it is.

That is strange. Could it be that you saved your music in a format not recognized by the radio? Have you tried a JPEG image?

If its an iTunes folder I have the same problem. Those are m4p files and I think the radios only work with mp3 files. I might be wrong though.

Just one more reason to hate Itunes.

itunes are their own format if purchased thru itunes are AAC, now if you have an ipod you can get a cable that will sit in the glove box or you can be smart and put the cable thru center console if you have it and have it come out somewhere on the console. You will have it all on the radio that way and not really take up space. Now you can convert music in different programs I tunes will make them all AAC if you like but not sure if it goes the other way, but there are free programs you can google them and them make convert all you music except what you purchased thru I tunes and then when you transfer it make sure you are transferring from windows music file and not itunes music folder on to your drive.

I can't copy any music from my Ipod to my radio, presumably for the same reason. I am able to copy music from my Droid to the radio, but it (the radio) doesn't like large chunks of music... if I select too many songs for copying it just copies a few and says it's done. In spite of the 30g storage space it seems like a pretty primitive system.

No the problem is not the format I am using. I use only mp3 files and have tranferred plenty of music before (I had about 20 albums on there so far). I tried every thing that I could think of including putting the music into folders and also placing music files in the root directory of the SD card and still no go. I am thinking it might be somehting internal. I was on the stock software so I upgraded to the latest and this still did not do anything to fix the issue.

I've never been able to transfer music with my Ipod... even though you might start out with MP3 files, when you load them onto an Ipod they get converted to a proprietary file type. Not sure how you'd ever be able to get them to upload, but if you say so... My truck came with an interface cable in the top glovebox for my Ipod, and it works fine to play music, but you can't transfer anything. If I plug the Ipod into the front USB, same thing... no files to copy. Another reason I love my Droid!

I never copied the songs with an Ipod. I use a flash usb memory stick and copy the songs onto it from my computer and when you plug it into the usb input it would always transfer the songs without a hitch.
