currently have the 4.7L in my dak, blew a rod bearing after the fan clutch went out, new radiator, therm, and fan clutch. flowmaster super44 exhaust with short turndowns, high flow cat, K&N cai, 72mm tb, and superchips tuning all are awaiting install. is it more practical to spend the insane amount of money on a crate 4.7L (2-2,500$$) or to buy a 5.9L for a grand less and upgrade it? which provides more bang for the buck? all answers welcome

There is a much larger after market field for the 5.9 since its been around longer. But I think she tops out at 12mpg. So if your going for power/torque then go with the 5.9. But if you have all that money invested in a 4.7 already it might be a good idea to go with another 4.7. But you can get more power out of a 5.9 especially if you stoke it to a 408.

The 5.9 has a mod advantage over the 4.7 as well as power. Anything thrown into a 4.7L seems to be a waste of money because of how expensive upgrades can be for them. I mean, I've heard of 4.7s modded to run 12s and under, but if it's bang for the buck, 5.9L will win.

"Thunder" will tell you he was very mad when he got his truck dynoed. 5.9 is the way to go.
