Default Fog light switch installation

I need to install some aftermarket (PIAA -119C) fog lights, but my 2000 Dakota did not have the OEM lights, so it does not have the OEM fog light switch assembly on the dash. Does it make sense to purchase an OEM switch assembly ($40 on ebay), and would I be getting into a wiring issue trying to patch the PIAA switch into the OEM assembly? Thanks for any advice and dire warnings you might offer.

i have 2 sets of piaas. the have all wiring complete. they supply their own switch. the hardest part for the whole setup is finding a place to hide the wires, no joke. wiring takes about 5 minutes.

I havent had any issues hiding wiring...But yea, I think I did my fog light re-install faster than a tire swap. I would just use the stock switch, or get a custom one...I like to have it lighted(other than my stock one) so I know they are on or off during daytime...

I think it would be better to use a seperate switch that way you can have fogs on with high beams if you want plus it will save you some money and you dont have to wire it into the switch.

I agree. I mounted my fog lights in those weird little spaces just next to where the stock fogs go. They came with a switch that used to be lighted but its not anymore, just gotta remember to turn them off. And yes it is nice to have the fog lights on with the high beams at night... Lots and lots of deer around here.

Wire them so they shut off with the ignition, that way you can never leave them on accidently. I always wire mine that way. I also always run mine through a relay I place under the hood.

I'll probably learn that lesson the hard way... Lol. I actually haven't left them on yet but then again it is night time. Sometimes it is hard to tell because mine has the stupid delay shut off lights so if you shut the truck off then the lights they stay on for awhile. But I can usually tell if the fogs are on.

Oh they are on a keyed circuit...I just like the peace of mind too. I always turn my lights off to counter the delay(prior to ignition off). I hate that delay...stupid convenience.

Personally on my 97 i have the oem spot but i didnt want to worry with the wireing issues so i just bought a switch at walmart and drilled a hole in the dash. It looks good so im not complaining.

Thank you all for responding. The PIAA liights are due to arrive in a couple of days, so I think I'll use the switch that comes with the package and figure out where and how to mount it once I see what I'm working with. Hopefully it's a lighted switch at least.
