Default Sensors in transmission??

Hi,
I'm new here and not sure if my posts are being viewed or even if anybody can help me, but I have a 2001 Dakota, 3.9, v6. My issue is that it seems to be getting stuck in 1st gear and 3rd gear intermittenly. From previous threads and online research, I am going to change my tranny fluid and want to change my sensors (speed sensor and output speed sensor). Are they both in the case or are they outside the tranny case? I thought at least one is on the side....I just don't want to drain it and find out I need something else!!!
Any help will be greatly appreciated....Thanks!!

Do you have a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual? Those repair books can tell you all about your truck. There's also some good repair posts at the beginning of the forum.

Angry Gov. sensor....HELP!!!

I do have a Haynes and it doesn't go into a whole lotta detail about the transmission. I just changed my fluid and speed sensor (was originally getting error codes for that). Just came back from a test drive and now I'm getting a P1757 code.... Gov Press above 3 PSI in gear with 0 MPH!! And I'm still having the same acceleration issues!!! Should I try and clear the code first and then see what happens? I disconnected the neg. terminal on the battery before starting up, but it didn't help.
The fluid definitely needed to be changed and my sensor was fouled with black crap, so I'm glad I did it. But now what??
This is driving me absolutely crazy!!

You can get the 2001 factory manual here:

It has all the information on the transmission.
