Default New 98 Dakota for me

Hi, I just bought a 1998 Dodge Dakota R/T V6 from a friend of mine, who bought it new in 1998. It has 90,000 miles, garage kept, no body or paint work and in like new condition. I couldn't pass it by, it's in beautiful condition inside and out. He had it inspected, put on new brakes, muffler, tail pipe, windshield blades, radiator flushed and new antifreeze and a tune-up. He keeps all of his vehicles in excellent condition. He also has 2 Hot Rods in excellent condition. I am now the proud owner of a 98 Dakota. I just sold my 2001 Ford Lightning, after owning it 3 years. It was putting out 650 HP at the wheels, super fast. I decided I am done with drag racing, I am 72 years old and just want a nice truck. Lucky I found this site, I am sure I will have future questions about the 98 V6s. Ray from Maryland

Sounds like a good find Ray. Welcome to the forum.

Just to clarify though, the R/T is the 5.9 engine, not the 3.9 (V6).

I moved this to the general discussion forum.

What! Whatta-ya-mean done with drag racing ? Say it ain't so Ray! j/k! I'm only 52 and I'm done (for now) with drag racing. Mine is more of an economic decision not an age decision. I'll be drag racing in my wheel chair! LOL!

BTW, great choice in grabbing the R/T ! And also a very smart decision to have the cooling system flushed out! I recently bought a 98 Dakota as well and it was very poorly maintained. I recently spent a lot of time working on the cooling system to get it to work right.

Anyways, this a great forum with very decent helpful people !

Great truck, sounds like it's really maintained by someone who is a motorhead. I had mine since almost new, it was handed down to me. Over 200K and it runs great. The paint is just starting to lose it's clear coat. Mine is the 3.9 SLT I believe, magnum V-6. A great engine in it's day. I think at the time they were selling these things they were advertising them as the "New Dodge", that's a long time ago. I got the okay for a new truck but finding it very hard to part with this thing. Probably one of the best trucks I owned in my lifetime. Good luck and I hope it servers you well.

Default Dakota Sport

You are right my Dakota is a Dakota Sport and not a R/T. Shows my age, I thought I was buying a R/T, but thats alright, I still love my Dakota Sport V-6. I only drive it three days a week, 8 miles a day. I won't be putting much milage on it. I do enjoy driving it, it is very easy to drive.
