Default Help! 97'Dakota Low beams out But High Beams work

Hi,

I have a 97' Dakota SLT with 3.9L engine. I noticed both of my low beam lights are out, but other lights all work fine: high beams, fog lights and turn signals.

It's my understanding that high beam and low beam share the same light bulb, does it mean the the light bulbs are okay?

Does low beam have a separated fuse or it shares with the high beam, since they share the same light bulb?

Any advice is kindly appreciated!

Same bulb, but, two separate filaments. The lows may simply be burned out. Verify you are getting power to the bulbs, and there is a good ground when low beams should be on.

Thanks for your advice, HeyYou.

I am now certain the problem isn't the bulb. I put a brand new bulb in one of the headlight, the low beam didn't come on, still the same thing.

I tested the voltage in the light bulb socket as you suggested, I am getting 0 voltage when low beam is switched on; as for the high beam, the voltage is close to 12v.

I wonder which part should I test or replace next ?

Find out where you are losing power. Next spot to check would be the multi-function switch. If you have tilt wheel, moving the wheel up all the way, tends to pull the wires out of the socket.

Default Issue fixed same problem

Had same issue mine was the assembly on the column. That engage the high beans. It caused a short and shut down my low beams.
