Cranking VS Torsion Keys
Ok, well i havent seen this question on this forum and i was researching it so ill ask it.
What is the difference between cranking the torsion bars VS buying a new set of torsion keys?
After doing some research i came to the conclusion that the only difference is that the new keys will allow you to raise your truck higher then the stock OEM keys. A company called "Readylift" makes keys for different trucks and says that you can keep your factory ride, but i dont understand how this is possible. Also i found that the main misconception of torsion bars is that when you "crank" them that you are increaseing the tension in the bars, which is not true, the bars are preloaded from the factory. What you are really doing is adjusting the position of your nutrual point of upward and down travel. So if you crank them and your truck sits higher then you have less upward/downward travel. Thats what i've understood. Also there is a debate about if you need longer shocks if you crank your bars, im not sure what the answer is to that. I would think you could keep your stock length because it would act as a stop for your control arm to prevent extreame angels on your cv joint. What do you guysthink?

I would just crank your T bars, imo the index keys are a waste of money.

and you can only get 1-2" of reliable lift with cranking,
It does add stress to your susp. sys.
new keys, however, are like drop control arms.
they are shaped to create lift without adding pressure where it could cause damage.
yeah exactly, but just the cab to even the truck out. Or does a body lift do the same thing even though it says "2 inch lift"?
