Freakin' Crap.... brakes....
Okay, so I take my truck to a shop to have it aligned.. find out while it's on the rack that my right side hub bearing was SHOT... had them replace it while it was on the rack (very cheap labor.. we'll get back to that in a minute)... I get the truck home.. happy it finally drives straight without my arm getting tired... so about a week later I go to change the front brake pads... take wheels off, start on the passenger side.. no problems... until I tried to put the lower caliper bolt back in... come to find out that the freaking threads on the steering knuckle are stripped out (refer back to the 'CHEAP LABOR' comment)... so I have to go buy an oversized bolt to replace the factory one.. only problem is, I now need to FINISH the job and replace my rotors, but I'm afraid to take that lower bolt out for fear of it not tightening up again and having to buy a whole new steering knuckle from either the dealer ora junk yard....grrrrr.... sorry, no real point to this thread.. just needed to vent.... ARG!
no.. I didn't even know they sold these, but the oversized bolt actually looked like a tap only it had regular threads on the opposite sides of the 'cut'.. I stopped by NAPA as a last resort before going through dodge to order a new steering knuckle and I just so happened to see it on the shelf.. on the back of the package though it said do not use repeatedly... so if I take it out I guess I'm screwed to either tap it out to a bigger bolt, which probably wouldnt fit, or pay who knows how much for a knuckle [:'(]

dude... that was another thing that I actually forgot about... they had crossthreaded two of my lug's on the front and I had to break the studs off.. luckily had spare studs, but no lug nuts.. go figure.. that's another thing I have planned for the next week or so.. gotta change the front/rear struts... any recommendations?
Same thing just happened to me...i go to get the front end redone... ball joints, idler arms, control arms that stuff....well come to find out the same thing happen that you are talking about becasue i had the guy replace the brakes to.....so that was another 70 on top of the 700$...but she drives like a new truck lol....i mean i just picked my truck up at 5 so it was funny to see this post.
wow... here I am being bummed about having to replace front/back struts and the rotors.. the only good thing I got out of buying my truck used was they had just had the ball joints replaced..don't have to worry about the recall for that.. however they made up for by giving my truck the freaking death flash... which I knew nothing about before I bought the truck....

I had an earlier post where I talked about the KYB Monomax shocks. I will eventually get around to posting back on that thread because there were some people asking me about it. I really, really like the way the KYB Monomax shocks feel handle on my 4x4. However, there is an annoying problem with them and I finally figured out what it was. Over larger bumps and road imperfections, they perform well. When I drive over slightly bumpity road imperfections, I hear a slight clanking noise. I hear it on all four corners.I couldn't figure it out for the longest time because the truck has to be moving to reproduce it. Well, now I am pretty sure what it is. The old shocks I removed had rubber bushings on them at the bottom mount points where the bolts would go through. The KYBs don't have this, they are solid steel without the rubber bushing. I am pretty sure this is what's causing the noise I am hearing. I plan to contact KYB about this.
Cool thanks. I was looking at the Rough Country RX2000 series for the front ( think that was the model) their around $30 a piece from autozone and they have the piston dust/mud covers.. which is where I messed up the ones that are on it.. took the truck off-road 3 days after I bought it and from that day on the thing creaks like an old man getting out of bed in the morning.

I replaced almost every brake part on the truck now and this was the last thing to complete the project. It has been a major pain (especially the fire that broke out when the caliper froze) but the dakota is almost as good as new... almost. Thanks for the post.
