[:@] i have to replace the heater core in my '98 dakota4x4. it's going to be a real pita. the chiltons manual shows the entire dash being removed in order to gain access to, and remove the heater/ac box. if anyone has done this project, is there anything else i need to be aware of,orany helpful insight would be a plus.
--thanx
Apparently Dodges are just like GMs. The factory builds the car around the heater core.

One thing I don't understand is what is going on that causes you guys to go through heater cores so fast. My 2000 doesn't leak, smell, and it will cook me out of the truck if I let it. Course now i'd better knock on wood.

hes got a point all of our dodges have used the origional heater core for the entire time that weve owned them, my dads 96 was still origional, my moms 02 d is still origional, my dads 03 dak is still origional, and my 98 is still origional

I have a 2000 and mine blew up, just so many other things to fix before i get to that, Its like one thing after another, who ever had this truck before me did NOT take care of it at all.. so now i have to fix everything and replace the ****.

ditto[:@]

but ya I just bought an OEM one that already had a leak in it I guess, cause as soon as I replaced it I could still smell coolant, so I'm gonna get the dealer to replace this one so then atleast I have a warranty.

2 questions

It seems for everybody it is leaking on the passenger side, for me it is leaking on the driver side, any significance to that?
and the other question is im just wondering how big of a deal this is, is it important to get it fixed right away? because I go home in 2 weeks and I would much rather deal with it at home

the heater core is on the passenger side, so maybe yours is leaking and then following a path to the drivers side, I would atleast bypass your heater core the the time being until you get it fixed.

Heater Cores is just to the right of the gas pedal over teh tranny hump. The a/c evaporator is on the pass side.
