RE: 360
i live in south carolina. we dont have any kind of emission laws here. i can get a running engine for $850
im wanting to just drop it in for right now and just upgrade trans and rearend later. i think is a great idea, haha. but thats me.i want the power of the v8 but want the quad cab also. dont want a 4x4 either. the 4wheel drives come with 360s right? i think if i dont dog the crap out of it right away, with the trans i have in it right now, it should be fine.?

RE: 360
360's did come in the QC 4x4. but I still dont your tranny holding up for very long.
I like to do things all at once, and do it the right way. I've done hack jobs before. I put a 302 in my ranger and it was a complete hack job and looked like crap. and didnt last long. now I do stuff the right way and it turns out cheaper in the end. and looks alot better too.

RE: 360
should be a 42re, iirc. The 360 comes with the 46re behind it. Bolt pattern is probably the same, but input shaft might very well be different. You most likely CAN put the 360 in front of a 42re, but you will blow it up.
And South Carolina may not have specific emissions laws, but it doesn't matter what your state legislators have said, emissions laws are Federal at a minimum, state level can be more strict but not less strict. Will they find you? Most likely no, but if you do get called out, it's a hefty fine.
