RE: Transmission noise???
well if your drive shaft is silver then its aluminum, and if its rusty, then its steel
I think I have royal purple ATF- 3 or 4 I forget which one it takes.
and I have 10w30 in my engine.
and on your glove box there is a sticker with your options on it. there was a link floating around here somewhere that if you put your vin# in it will tell you all your options.

RE: Transmission noise???
Mine was making a clunk noise when i shifted from park to drive or to reverseand I always mentioned it when I brought the truck in for service and finally on a typical oil change the mechianc tightened the bolts on the tranny and found they where actually lose! The noise hasn't come back since, I wish I could tell you the exact bolts that where lose but they must have worked themselves lose at one point!

RE: Transmission noise???
i just had a nice clunk too. I checked the u joints and they seemed tight and it sounded like it was in the rear end. I didn't have time to do it myself so i dropped it off at a shop and let them look into it. I was convinced it was in the rear end. So were they so they pulled apart the diff, and said it looked like new, so they did a flush anyways. Then replaced the rear u-joint... it was seized.

RE: Transmission noise???
I have a 97' Dakota 4x4 w/ manual transmission. I have had trouble on two occasions with shifting from 1-2-3 but never in 4th or 5th?!? I have read the above posts regarding the U-Joints...does anyone here think maybe this could be my problem? I appreciate the help all!
