Default Changing Thermostat from stock 195 to lower?

Was looking on the JET website and they got a Thermostat that is 180 instead of 195 for my truck, Iv seen some ppl have them on there truck on these website. Is it worth doing? Any more power gains? Guessing the truck would run cooler, or is it something you would do to a truck with mods to keep it from running hot? Is it hard to change and do?

Thanks for help

You gotta start doing searches man. The 180 keeps the engine running cooler which makes more power (very small increase but an increase nonetheless). The drawbacks to this are that your heater will suck more than it does now and it will be harder to pass emissions since the higher temp burns cleaner. The gain is better with other mods like a CAI, TB, headers, exhaust, and a tuner.

you wont see any power gains out of them. but most of us who have cam kits and programmers put them in. for 10.00 you can get your 180 stat from napa part number is 530080. easy to install. just follow your top radiator hse to the thermosta housing and remove. check first to see if the alterator or a/c condensor is in the way. you may need to remove them to get at the housing.

ya, I got superchips. its set on performance, but tomorrow I'm putting in on stage one. gas is getting to expensive now and I cant afford to be putting premium in it since I've been putting alot of kms on it.

and my CAI still hasnt came in. I guess cause of the holiday hopefully next week

I still gotta get my roll pan on too.... I've been way too busy these past couple weeks[:@]

would recommed getting one? If on stage 1 do you get good gas mileage/performance gain? What model did you get and where? Does the performance mode give you good power over the stock?

I got mine off a guy off this forum. I noticed a difference, and better MPG if I'm not givin er.

I noticed it shifted better and had better throttle response, the best thing about it is that you can view/clear codes.
