Default please more power

I have a 01 dakota r/t . Yup the 5.9l ,But i need more power .I have rode in the 4.7 and i think that the big 5.9l is in need of a major facelift.

With that size engine it should have 300 hp stock, but i think it only has like 230,240.
I have read the post reg cam change and if i get a comp cam it say's that i must change lifter springs and other stuff.I also read the post reg, rear end gears. The truck has 3.92 i believe and i was wondering if i should g with 4.56's like the guy said . please tell me that there is some sort of secret to unlocking the 5.9l's potential.

4.56 will kill ur fuel milage, 4.10s would be as high as i would go, you can do ehxust, intake, chip it with superchips or anything else thats avialable, performance fuel injectors.. the list goes on

Yeah i have a series 40 flow with 8" turn downs and a cold air intake but the gain was minimal and my gas mileage is crappy about 13 mpg. But i want to do auto cross and i think 4.56 would give it the mustang gtpep without the 5spd.But about the super chips how well does that work?

I think 4.56's and auto-xing would have you just spinning sideways around each corner, as you accelerate through them....

May be just me though...

Yeah probly right . But i like the truck and i think that it has potential. I have no idea about 8cyl i have only owned toyota and other scrap yard auto's this is the first real vehicle that i have owned and i love it. I want to hear about the super chips programmer from some one who has tried it on a 5.9.

The 360s come stock 250hp/344tq at crank, so about 200/276 is going to the wheels.
With the mods i have on my truck listed below (very bad tune i have an exhuast leak and running rich) i have about 270 to the wheels, and about 340hp at the crank, ive almost boosted my hp by 100 at crank and 70 at the wheels, and like i said i still need to have my truck tuned and a new pcm to handle the intake manifold.. if i could get a full dyno at 6k rpm i would get better runs. right now its stock shift points and rl.

Best thing you can do if you can afford it is to bore the bitch out to a 408 stroker, or drop a 440bb in it.. or even better a cummins or hemi..

but with a stock 360, am intake manifold, heads, headers, intake, TB, exhuast, cam, lifters, PCM, ect.. would really make the beast fast.

My 270hp can stomp GT Stangs and pretty much any rice burner, but i still need more hp to hang with the z28s and LS1,2 ect..

Superchips takes about .2 secs off your et, it helps, it gives youbetter fuel curves and raises your rev limiter and better performance from the tune, also can raise our govenor to about 130 or so...

but if your going to pay fullprice for a programmer you might as well go out and by a Mopar Performance PCM or a B&G Flash... they do ALOT more and better gains..

i'd start off with a CAI and an m-1 intake manifold to get that motor breathing better. then do an exhaust. the secret to the 5.9 is torque. the horsepower rating does look weak, but it makes it up in torque. torque is what gets you off the line and gets you going.

i can say my 05 4.7 rips. i put hurtings on hemis that are fixed up. i have a simple cam kit and flash. as for the 360. there are endless combination out there. my mistake was passing up on an 03 r/t. had i bought that the power would have beenendless the only way to get power is to go internal. or go with a stage 2 or 3 motor if you have the funds. everyone makes parts for these motors. and the correct tuning is were its at. you can build power but what good is it if you cant time it. upgrading is a big deal i owned a 1987 buick grnd national with the stage 2 motor t 12 turbo and intercooler.expensive. but if you want to leave it stock then put a novi 1000 supercharger on it. for 3500.00 it will be just as good as going internal and you will only be down a weekend for the install. not 6 weeks having the motor built
