Default a question about towing !

hi guy i would like to know if you would do what i am about to do ! First, i just had my class 3 hitch put on last tuesday. My truck is a 97 automatic with 108750 miles on. I will only use the truck for regular atv towing, wich are 2 yamaha raptors ( around 450 lbs each with all the fluids ) I usually put one in the bed and one on a Home depot type8x4 atv trailer. So i guess there shouldn<t be any issues there. But pretty soon, i plan to move out of the province and go back to my home town. The trip is a 1300 km ( 812.5 miles) . I want to rent a U-Haul Van trailer. There are 2 type i am looking for, the 6x12 with weigh 1800 lbs dry, and the 10x5, which weigh 1300 lbs dry.i need those to move my furnitures and stuff. My truck don<t have a transmission cooler and the road got so very high elevation changes at some point. i was wondering, am i going to burn my tranny by towing either the 6x12 or the 5x10, or should i buy a transmission cooler to put on ? so tell me what you think about that thanks !

I would not hesitate to throw a trans cooler on. You can get a decent one at Napa for under $100 and for about an hour investment in time you will be safe. I think of it this way: You will be towinga couple thousand pounds for 800 miles through the hills. Is it worth saving $100 to take the risk of burning up the tranny that will cost thousands to replace, not to mention what you will do if you get stuck on the side of the road somewhere between here and there with a trailer full of stuff?
My recommendation: Get a cooler. It's like insurance for the peace of mind.

I agree - get the biggest one you can fit in there, and keep it out of overdrive. You may want to do some research and see what the max trailer weight you can tow is, factoring in frontal area as well.
