Interchangeable PCMs?

Default Interchangeable PCMs?

I started with a 3.9L 2000 Dakota, and I put a 5.2L 1998 Durango engine, harness, and pcm in it. I'm getting a "no bus" error, but I think the ecm is also bad at the same time because my A/C doesn't work and my trans temp light won't go off. Anyway, this leaves me with several questions:

1. What would I have to do to make the "no bus" odometer go away?

2. If I needed a new pcm, what one could I use since there was not a 5.2L Dakota in 2000? Some ideas I had for a 5.2L pcm were a 99' Dakota, 99' Durango, 00' Durango, or a 00' Ram 1500. Are any of these interchangeable?

3. The dealership claims that they can't change the PCM VIN once it's been set. Are they lying?

4. If the dealership puts my 3.9L VIN number on a new 5.2L controller, will it run as a 5.2L or will it try to run as a 3.9L?

I would really appreciate any answers you can offer for these questions or even a quick lesson on pcm swapping compatibility.

Update:

I did not try a pcm from 2000, but a 1999 will not work unless you get it reflashed. I had to have B&G reprogram my 1999 Durango pcm with a flash for a tuned down 5.9L calibration from a 2005 Dakota. Don't ask why, but it worked and made all my check engine and "no bus" lights go off.

My harness did not have the proper A/C connections. I had to rewire the system myself, and now that works as well.

The dealership was either lying or very ignorant. Both the VIN and the mileage can be flashed into the pcm. I used the VIN from the 3.9L with no problems whatsoever.

huh? There were no 5.9 Dakotas in 05. Glad it's working though.

Yeah, well the original plan was to use a tuned down 5.9L. I guess when the guy from B&Gfigured out thathe would need a 2005 program, he ended up changing that idea. I suppose it was amodified 4.7L? Who knows; I'm just happy it works after all the troubleshooting I went through. Let's just say I won't have to replace any of my sensors for a while.

The truck runs great though. There is definitely a lot more power than I hadwith the 3.9L.
