hey every one i new on the fourm, i need some help peeps. i have a 318 in my 98 dakota. im looking to buy a new engin or do a rebuild. but i would love to but a bad *** 408 in it. dose any know if it will drop in or do i have to mod a bunch of crap.

also dose any one have a 408 or a 360 for sale

 

just buy a 360 and make it into a 408.

 

i tryed to buy a 360 through the dealer and they said that they dont produce them any more. i already have a dual 3" piping and no cats. also intake manifold, injecters, rocker arms. i have a lota miles and losing power fast, so i need to ruild or buy a new motor. any suggestions

 

You can stroke the 318 with the same exact kit that's used on the 360 and get a 383ci I believe. I would do that, you already have a great block to start with.

 

That or buy a better engine! Something like a Hemi Would be work though But it is 345 hp stock you could even make it better. I might even be doing this soon.

 

Exact same? Well you'll have to machine all of the crank bearing journals to accept the larger bearings. It'd be easier to get a 318-specific stroker crank. Cheaper too.

 

I have a 318 in my durango and the oil pump just puked so I'm sticking arebuilt 5.9 in it.(cheaper than a stroker!) If you put a decent cam in it,ported heads,roller rockers, headers,etc, it'll put out some power. But if you're rich, buy a 5.9 off ebay,stroke it, add a supercharger and that'll put out some power.
