Default Check engine light on. Need to reset.

My check engine light is on due to an 02 sensor being out. BUT!!! I did get the o2 sensor installed and pulled the negative wire off of the battery for about 20 minutes. It worked for about 1 minute. Then it came back on. Any suggestions?

Try Autozone. They usually do a computer code check for free.

could be a bad cat... making the o2 not read correctly meaning light stays on.

OR you spliced or cut some type of waire while doing it.

What o2 sensor is it?

I think on your truck you can check the codes by doing the 3 turns of the key.

take the key out of the ignition.
Put it back in and turn the key to accsesory and back to off 3 times in a row and it will tell you the codes..

mine does it not sure what models it did it on.

Se, what happened was, my friend and i did replace the cat. It's the second o2 sensor. The one thats on the cat. So i do have a brand new cat on there. I just got the o2 sensor installed like 2 days ago at mieneke. Light didnt go off. I pulled the negativer wire off the battery for 20 minutes, still didnt go off. But this morning my step brother said that he can clear the code with his code reader from his work. So i lucked out. Thanks for the advice.

When he scanned for codes while the check engine light is on, it didnt spit out any codes at all. So, he hit clear codes anyway and the light turned off. But about 50 feet down the road, it turned back on. What now?
