I just bought a 03 R/T with 49k on the ticker. I didn't notice any problems on the test drive, but then again the test drive wasn't in rush hour on the 405. I first noticed a thump in stop and go traffic when I would come off the throttle right before the next shift point, (I wasn't able to glance down at the tach). It sounded like a u-joint clunk when the rpms settled down, or a hollow thump, kind of like a small backfire. I know this is one of the impossable to diagnose"it makes a noise!" complaints, so what has everyone experienced when they had bad u-joints?

 

thats a simple check. get under truck and grab a hold of the drive shaft and twist it back and forth and look and listen.

 

and from what i heard from a transmission shop, chrysler rear ends are known for being sloppy, alot of backlash in the differential

 

yea mine does somethin like that to...but my differential has a leak in it right where the drive shaft goes into so i think thats my problem..
