Default Door dome light switch

I have a new problem that I cannot figure out. When I hit a pothole or bump of any size, my "door ajar" light and the dome lights come on and stay on. Up until today, if you re-opened the door (passenger side) and shut it, the lights would go off. Now they stay on all of the time. Has anyone else experienced this problem with a 2001 Club Cab? How difficult is it to replace the door switch?

Make sure they are all tight before you attempt to replace them. Most likely one of them has gotten loose and is moving around. If that doesn't work, make sure that the wiring is still tight, as you might be getting a false ground.

Thanks for the response. I went to my local Dodge dealer today and asked for the switch. They cannot find anything like that in their database. He asked another parts guy and then a service guy and their conclusion is that the switch must be in the door latch mechanism. Never heard of that but I guess it is possible. I guess I will pull the door panel now and see if it is something as simple as a loose wire.

It's possible, and true. I don't know when they changed it on the Dakota, but sure enough, in 2001, its integral to the door latch unit.
A lot of vehicles are that way now... nice isn't it?
