Default unscientific MPG results

Thought I would post this just for the heck of it. I have an 03 4x2 quad cab Dakota with the 4.7 engine. I have a K&N CAI, Fastman TB and Superchips programmer. I recently towed my motorcycle (Honda VFR800) to Asheville, NC from Mooresville, IN to a motorcycle rally. On the way down, I ran 87 octane fuel with the Superchips set to 87 octane performance. According to the overhead console, I averaged 17.5 mpg for the trip, which was about 9 hours with stops. On the way back, I ran 91 octane or higher and had the Superchips set to towing performance. I got the same exact mpg. The one thing I did notice about the towing performance is the throttle responds a bit better/quicker. I assume that is because of the fuel mapping changes for more torque.

Anyway, thought it was interesting that I got the same mileage with both settings. Guess I should've saved the extra $.20 per gallon. Like I said, this is an unscientific result and just what I noticed.

Might be as simple as the headwinds. You might have been going against the winds one way and with them on the return trip.

I just replaced my cat. and I've been improving. 3 more mpg with the first full tank of gas after the installation. I couldn't even make it to 200 miles on a tank. I'm on gallon 13 of 18 and got about 170 miles so far.
