Default '98 Dakota 5.9 r/t problem

I just ran into a small list of problems with my truck after never had a problem before. It has about 80k miles, and recently brought it in for an inspection and oil change. The following day the ABS and E-Brake light on dash lit up and will not go off, and now the speedometer will not read speeds when below 20 (just drops to 0 and when I reach 21+ it shoots up to the current speed) It has plenty of brake fluid and I tried plugging in a code reader and it sais everything checks to pass, but the reader does not do ABS errors. Does anyone know what might be malfunctioning to cause all these problems? Oh an just to add, my mechanic replaced the right upper ball joint due to about 2 inches of play for the inspection, not sure if that could effect anything

Do you have 4 wheel ABS, or just rear wheel? If you have 4-wheel, he may have messed up one of the sensors on the front when changing the ball-joint. Not sure why that would affect the speed sensor as that's in the rear, but who knows. ???

mine does similar things time to time... the odd morning i'll start up my truck and as it gets into passing gear or so my ABS and e brake light comes on..but I just shut off then restart it and it's fine....and it only happens once in awhile..it stil works great though even when the lights are on.

I had the exact same problems you are having. It IS the rear speed sensor. Replace that and all your problems will go away

Ok, replaced the rear wheel sensor....after finding out the name was Rear wheel speed/ABS sensor....it all made sense. An easy part to replace in a very inconvenient place to get to. Took over 2 hours including the run to the dealership, but according to a few mechanic friends, replacing that part now is just as typical as a tune up. Thanks for the help though guys, im sure i'll be sticking around for Q and A's. My brother is almost done fixing up his '92 Camaro. It is completely modified and throw out an easy 300 rwhp, last year we both ran and he took me on the second run by half a car....this year it will be different, I have simple mods like intake and racing plugs, but have to really get into it within the next few weeks

i had the same problem but they told me it had somethin to do with the ABS hydrolic somethin.... i dunno they read the codes it was giving but wouldnt let me see them...so they had my truck for 2 days and now 3 months later all the lights are off but thinking my ABS was fixed ( it was broke before all tires would just lock up..) yesterday i hit a deer it was a little wet out and sure enough i got the gut wrenching feeling when all i hear tick tick tick tick instead of feeling the pedal vibrate from the abs all tires locked up again and bye bye deer, ****ers...there gonna be hearing from me...i should be able to sue them or somethin
