It sounds like the intake plenum gasket.

the k&n just clogs up ur intake manifold. loo out for that. as far as the knocking it could also be a stuck lifter. try some mystery oil. you can get it at a local auto store. pour it into your oil and that might do it.

if those are mom and pop gas stations then it would say it is the gas. when was the last time you ran fuel injector cleaner threw the system. these trucks have knock sensors to prevent that. also you could have an 02 sensor going and it is not telling the computer

What you are hearing is Spark Knock. Not uncommon for our engines. Either cheap gas, or more likely the plenum gasket is badas already was stated. A bad plenum gasket lets oil into the intake manifold, it's then sucks into the cylinders andburned, the oil being burned is what contributes to the spark knock under a load. Check down in your intake manifold and see if there is a film of oil at the bottom. Just open the throttle blades with the intake hat off and peer down in there with a light.

I've had that issue before, only would notice it with ARCO gas for some reason, ever since then stayed away from that stuff and went away.

My vote is the gas.[:'(]
