Default 2000 V6 radiator fan switch failure?

I have a 2000 Dakota V6 w/100k mi. Lately, the radiator fan stays on even with the ignition off. I have to pull the #16 (30amp) fuse to break the circuit--a pain in the a**. Does the radiator fan switch on Dakotas fail in the ON position, or should I look elsewhere for the problem?

Thanks--
Ken.

as far as i know the none of the engines (except the 4 cyl) came with an electric radiator fan, so idk what your talking about, if you mean the fans for the cabin (i assume this is what you mean) i have an idea but im not sure, going to go test it know if thats what you mean let me know and ill tell you if it works

I have an 00' 3.9 which has an electric fan after the rad as well and honestly it hasn't worked in years! I never have over heating issues.

When you first turn the ignigtion on, does the fan come on? If it doesn't, does it only stay on after a short drive or longer drives? Or does it just come on assoon as you put the fuse back in? If so then likely the fan switch is shot and I believe you have to replace the entire fan unit. Call the service department to confirm. Sounds more like a temp sensor but I am not %100 sure what controls the electric fan.

On some smaller cars, the electric fan will even stay on after the ignigtion is turned off to help cool the motor down if it is still hot. I have never found that to be the case when I first bought my truck and eventually the fan just stopped functioning. I never replaced it as I never got into an overheating situation.

Yes, The fan will fail in the "on" position. I thought it was just running after ingnition shut off because the engine was hot. A dead battery later told me to check things out. You need to replace the number 2 relay. Got mine from the dealer, and no problems since. This was maybe 3 years ago at 50,000 to 70,000 miles. BTW mine is a 2000 v6 also.

Thanks.
Replace the #2 relay and the fan switch, or just the relay? I'll try the relay first--don' t have to get dirty...

Thanks-- Replaced the #2 relay ($20 from the dealer) and all is good. I owe you a beer if you get to S. Florida.
