Default 2004 4.7L Tranny Question.

Hey, just bought a 2004 QC 4+4 in a 4.7 litre. She's got 89,000kms on it and I am having an issue with the transmission. After its been parked for several hours, i've noticed a few times that when I start it up and put it into reverse or drive to drive away. Its has been just revving the engineand rolling like its not in gear. It just rolls until I take my foot off the gas or it somehow then gets into gear?? Anyone know about this problem or have simular occurances?? Thanks

I have not had it happen to the extent that you are talking about, but if you read the user manual it kind of hits on this subject. It says something along the lines of since your truck has sit so long the transmission fluid has drained into the pan. So when you fire it up, the transmission is not as responsive as it would be if you just ran it because the pressure is not acquired yet. But thats just a guess on my part.

Ok so this problem is still happening with my truck. It happens when it a little cold outside and I have not started it for 10 hours or longer. What happens is I start the truck, then put it into drive and I dont hear the tranny switch to drive. It only goes into gear when I step on the gas and then it clicks in with a "thunk" and goes into gear and off I go. Doesnt happen all the time, but id say about 3 times a week. HELP PLEASE

I guess I will start by asking the obvious questions first. Have you checked you tranny fluid level? When was the last time your tranny fluid/filter was serviced? 90% of tranny problems stem from tranny fluid level or filter problems.

Fluid is your first, place my guess is the torque converter isn't getting the fluid as fast as you would like because there probably isn't enough that or maybe a starting to clog filter.

I have a 2001 4.7 doing the same thing and thats what i am searching for right now. i was at a tranny shop and they are telling me it is an electrical problem with the underhood fuse box. They attached a jumper wire to one of the relays and it seemed a bit better but now they are telling me to pull the fuse box and clean all the contacts underneath it. Apparently the contacts are green. I will be doing it soon so ill let you know how it fairs out.

Check with dodge. The 45 rfe transmission has had some problems with their trans filters. The cooler filter actually. I have done a ton of them in the full size trucks with the same trans.
