Default cam pos. sens. code???

I left work the other night, went to start the eng. and it would only crank...did this checked that, went to check the mil lights, key on eng. off for a few seconds and it finally started, now theres a ck. eng. light,I put the reader on it and it came up as a cam position sensor code...I havn't had trouble since so I didn't look into it much but what I did see was that the 4.7 dosn't have a cam pos. sensor, only the eng.'s with a dist. do.....anyone else come across this???

I have never had that problem, but I've only had my Dakota for a month. The statement about the 4.7 not having a cam position sensor and the distributor ignition engines seems backwards, though. A distributor ignition has a gear on the distributor shaft that meshes with the cam gear. Inside the distributor housing, a magnetic pickup tells the distributor when to fire. However, with a distributorless ignition system (4.7), a cam position sensor is used to tell the ignition when to fire. Just my .02.

The 4.7 does have a cam sensor and a crank sensor. the cam sensor is on the right head near the air box. crank sensor is on the lower part of the block also on the right side.

Hmmm,thanx...It hasn't happened again...but if it does, I'll have to get it staightened out,I thought it seemed odd too but the cheapo Haynes manual dosn't say,it just says where the sensor is on the dist. engines, thanks again!
