Default Ignorant Mechanic

Need help with starting the engine. '97 2wd V6 failed to start in the consistant 100 degree weather. Thought it was a fluke. A simple jump had me going. Occasionally afterward she would take a while to start. (fast clicking with no action) Tonight it died and hasn't started since. Has 118,000 miles with no record of tune up. What could be the issue(s) and what's my next step? Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Is it still clicking? If it is that usally means dead battery My suggestion is check the connectors, along with the alternator. Maybe your battery is shot.

Okay then. I appreciate that. Can I just pull the battery out and take it to a parts place and have them tell me if it's good or bad?

Probably but all you need is a volt meter. will tell you in seconds that is if you have one.

A volt meter won't always tell if the battery is bad. You may still have 12 volts, but not have any cranking power. I work at a parts store where we test batteries for free, and have found out that the real hot weaether is just as hard on batteries as the real cold weather. Glad to hear you got the 'ol girl runnin again!

Make sure you replace your battery terminals while you are doing the work. This will ensure that your new battery won't meet the same fate as your last. (right away)
