My 97 with a 3.9 has been giving me fits. It stalled out last week and I found 0 fuel preassure at the fuel rail. Two days later I went out and checked for codes and accidently started it. Pump was back alive. Took off toward town only for it to stall out again about two miles down the road.

Drug it back home and replaced the fuel module (pump/filter/assending unit) and all was good for another week.

Then today I went out and it would not start. No fuel at the fuel rail again... grrrrrrr... I swapped around the fuel relay and auto shutoff relays with other relays in the power distribution box with no effect.

Anyone know the identification for the 4 wires going to the fuel module in the tank? and any other ideas why this thing is flaking out on me.

Dark green/black - voltage from fuel pump relay
Black - ground
Black/light blue - ground (provided via PCM)
Dark blue/white - fuel pump relay control

Uh, just thought of something, since the fuel pump and sending unit are both part of that module I am still not sure which wires do what? Any ideas?

 

From the wiring diagram I'm looking at, it looks like the pump motor gets it power from dark green/black, and ground from black.
Fuel level sensor = black/light blue for input, dark blue/white for output.

 

sounds like your fuel pump is bad. the truck is 10 yrs old. just a thought?
