When is it at the low level? Is it when you're sitting there idling or when your driving it? Mine sits at the low end when I'm just idling and when I'm moving the needle moves up to the higher end.

Go get a direct-read gauge.
The allowable minimum curb-idle readings are:
2.5L - 13psi at 600RPM; 25 to 35PSI at 800RPM (37 to 75PSI at 1600RPM+)
3.9L - 6PSI (30 to 80PSI at 3000RPM)
4.7L - 4PSI (25 to 110PSI at 3000RPM)
5.2L- 6PSI (30 to 80PSI at 3000RPM)
5.9L - 6PSI (30 to 80PSI at 3000RPM)

Just check your oil and make sure theres enough in there. Also, if its been a while since your last oil change, and it didn't do this before, change the oil (i.e. filters don't last forever). If that doesn't help and its below spec, or it worries you too much, it could be something a little more involved.

Did this just happen recently or has the truck always had low oil pressure? I would do an oil change and send an oil sample in.If it's still low after an oil change it could be alot of things such as a spun bearing or even a clogged oil pump screen.

the oil level is fine and i use a fram oil filter. i'd think it would make some kind of nasty noise if i had spun a bearing. and it stays constant at the L level line whether i'm driving or idling. and it's been like this for awhile. i think it started this a couple months ago after i had the trans rebuilt. could this be related to getting my trans rebuilt? how hard is it to change the oil pump? about how much is a new oil pump?

1st do an oil change and use a good filter such as mobil 1 or k&n. The oil pump is around $30. It's kind of hard to do if it's a 4x4. I spun a rod bearing in my engine and didn't realize it till I changed the oil and seen the metal pouring out.

Normally when you spin a bearing your pressure will drop and when it gets hot it will start knocking. So as long as you have pressure when you are reving the engine you should be ok.
