My 04 DakotaQC 4X4 4.7L just turned on an engine light. My friend diagnosed the light as an "Evap Code" and turned the light off. What could cause an Evap code?? WHat are some things I shoud be replacing? Thanks

evap is most common comes on when you fill your truck up when it running or if the gas cap is loose are leaking. I seen 3 2000 dakota within a month or so needed new gas caps since the pressure spring rust out.

Have the same problem, Hope this helps. Try replacing the gas cap and clear the code. If the check engine light comes back on check the hoses for any vaccum leaks. =)

I have a 2000 dakota and just had that code come on. found out that the gas cap had broke and would not seal right. The part only cost $7.00, so it was a pretty easy fix. Sometimes that does not fix it. My buddy had a similar prob so i had him try that and it did not work and it took us a while to figure out the hose that we had to replace but we got it in the end.

Ok so its not a gas cap. I bought a new one and my friend cleared the code and it came back on in a day. Where do I go now, my friend said something about a charcol canister and its sensors.

There is a black box under/near your gas filler hose. There are two vacuum lines running from it. Check to make sure they are secured.

Had this code pop up on my 2003 3.9l 4x4 dakota just a few days ago, just as a few other people had in their posts it was a split hose uder the hood, it was right at the connection with the green cap, just to the left of the battery if you are looking at the engine, didn't even need to buy a new hose there was enough slack that i just cut off the split end and reattached it(this time with a little tape and a clamp) reset the code and haven't seen it since
