2001 kota sport radio
Ok i got a new personal truck for my 18th birthday..2001 dakota sport 4x2 V6 fully loaded.
The body is straight, 101K miles, 99.99% emaculant. Only thing is, the LCD display for the radio doesn't work. Is that a simple "check that loose ribbon cable" or a whole radio replacement thing? The clock i dont miss since i have my phone, but it'd be nice to know what station or CD track i'm on.
It doesnt light up, like at all. Period.

id rip the stock unit out and put in an aftermarket unit, pioneer or sony IMO... sounds like the display cluster for the radio finally went, all your wires in the back are for power, dimmer, speakers, and an auxillary unit (if applicable), a decent aftermarket headunit is reasonably $150

i fyou go the aftermarket route get the universal adapter so you can just plug your stock deck back in just in case. also get either a pioneer or alpine deck. those are the best ones out there right now.

I'm no stranger with audio, but after investing650 in a new custom computer (dual core 3 GHz gaming system), i want to stay stock. Yea, everything else works. If i was a hair more competent with more spare time and less on the line, i'd pull the stock out and check the ribbon cable, since every LCD mass screen i've worked with that went bad was a ribbon cable that vibrated loose. Liquid Crystals don't just go out by theirselves.
I'll get a flashlight tomorrow to see if its just the backlight or the LCD's and the backlight together.

most likely its a broken connection n the circuit bored, that happened in my 95 chrysler cirrus, the odometer stopped working, checked out the wiring, fine, it was the cluster itself, yea its possible for the wiring to come loose but not really likely, id say 8 out of 10 its the components itself from wear and tear, can happen to wires t but isnt very common

Let me reitterate that- I AM NOT getting a new radio. I simply don't have the funds for it. After spending 650 on my computer (gaming/HTPC/video editing), i'm already halfway broke.
I'm going to tint the windows and put a class 3 hitch on it before i get a new radio.
