RE: 98 Dakota
They are very easy to do. If you have done front brakes on other vehicles before then you shouldn't have any problems. The worst part is dealing with the bolts that hold the caliper to the spindle...they tend to strip out but there are oversized self tapping replacements available at NAPA and other auto parts shops. I'm not sure what spring you are talking about unless you mean the thing that holds the outer pad to the caliper. I would recommend getting new caliper bolts and make sure you lube all the sliders that the caliper rides on to prevent it from sticking. I did the brakes on mine a few months ago and everything went fairly well except that I had to buy one or two oversized bolts. The fronts are easy but the rear brakes are a different story...
If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll try to help the best I can...good luck.

The only problem i ran into when changing my front brakes is that the holes on the spindle stripped out and i used this thing called a helicoil. You tap the hole just a little bigger and glue in new treads. did not take that long to do and i found that they work well.
good luck with yours!
