hmmm hate to say it but 12.35 volts is low for a battery. It needs 12.6 volts to crank the starter. You may want to consider taking your battery to a parts store and having it checked. (Load tested). A Battery with 12.35 volts may seem like everything is ok, but under a load it will probably drop. Just my .02

all done, taken care of, new starter in, fires right up, 9 out of 10 its a "flat" spot on the armature in the old starter, i did a bench test however on the old one and it operated fine but most likely i loosened up the aramture while smacking it around against the fram rail, o well, peace of mind, my truck will start for the next 3 years guaranteed or a new starter according to napa, idc, i just want to get to college and go work in my diesel shop... 12.3 volts would not raise any flags, just a weaker crank, your never gonna find a battery with perfect voltage its whole life, if it was reading 11.3 volts then yea, throw the jumper pack onto the battery then give it a shot, but that wasnt the cause, the old starter would just engage but wouldnt crank the engine, weird stuff if you ask me, but hell, in the end, it runs
